In the ever-evolving landscape of Guild Wars 2: Secrets of the Obscure, mastering the art of upgrading RIFTS is essential for securing valuable loot and enhancing your gaming experience. This mini-guide will walk you through the steps to unlock bigger RIFTS, craft motivations, and reap the rewards of tiered RIFTS, ensuring you make the most of this exciting feature. Let's embark on this journey together and delve into the intricacies of RIFT upgrading in Guild Wars 2.
- Accessing the Mastery Tab
- Acquiring Motivation Recipes
- Crafting Motivations
- Using Motivations to Open RIFTS
- Rift Tiers and Rewards
- Loot and Rewards
↖ Accessing the Mastery Tab
To begin your journey to opening larger RIFTS, you'll need to access the masteries in Guild Wars 2. Follow these steps:
- Go to the Masteries tab.
- Scroll down and locate the Astro Ward mastery.
- Astral Craft within Astral Ward allows you to craft tier 2 motivations.
- Emotion Control allows you to craft tier 3 motivations.
↖ Acquiring Motivation Recipes
With these masteries unlocked, you'll be able to craft different motivations that are essential for upgrading RIFTS. Here's where you can find them:
- Inside the Wizards Tower, head south from the Waypoint.
- Beneath a set of stairs, you'll find a giant Forge.
- Next to the Forge, you'll meet Lear, who sells the recipes for the motivations you've unlocked.
Purchase these recipes from Lear. They come in common, uncommon, and rare varieties.
↖ Crafting Motivations
Now that you have the recipes, you can craft motivations at your chosen crafting station. Here's how they break down:
- Common motivations require specific materials and are relatively easy to craft.
- Uncommon motivations use a common motivation as a base, along with additional components.
- Rare motivations build upon uncommon ones with even more materials.
Moreover, these motivations are tradable, so you can also acquire them from other players through the trading post.
↖ Using Motivations to Open RIFTS
Motivations play a crucial role in opening RIFTS. Notably, you cannot use them within the Wizards Tower. However, when you use a motivation, it tracks down an open Rift. The type of motivation you equip determines the type of Rift it locates:
- Tier 2 or tier 3 motivations will find tier 2 or tier 3 RIFTS, respectively.
- These RIFTS are located in different areas of the game world and can sometimes be stumbled upon accidentally.
↖ Rift Tiers and Rewards
There are three tiers of RIFTS:
Tier 1 RIFTS | These grant despair. You can use a common motivation on them, but they won't provide a buff. However, they yield more despair than standard RIFTS. |
Tier 2 RIFTS | Using a tier 2 motivation on these RIFTS grants a buff that disappears when you run out. You'll receive Essences of Greed as rewards, which are much more valuable than despair. |
Tier 3 RIFTS | Equipping a tier 3 motivation for these RIFTS provides a buff that lasts until you run out of charges. The rewards here include stacks of Essences of Triumph, ranging from 20 to 30 for the person opening the RIFT. |
↖ Loot and Rewards
When opening RIFTS with motivations equipped, additional players can also use motivations to receive bonus loot. The bonus loot can be up to six times more than what you'd typically receive. For example:
- Opening a tier 2 Rift may yield 5 Essences of Greed, but with motivations, you can earn an additional 25 Essences of Greed.
- You can even receive ascended gear from these RIFTS, making them even more worthwhile.
Conclusion:
In group scenarios, if you're not one of the motivation users in tier 3 RIFTS, you'll still receive some Essences of Triumph, albeit fewer than the primary motivation users. And that's a wrap on how to upgrade RIFTS in Guild Wars 2: Secrets of the Obscure! With the right motivations and knowledge, you'll be well on your way to unlocking more rewarding RIFTS and obtaining valuable loot. Good luck, and happy gaming!
