Diablo 4 Season 3 WASD Controls for PC on January 23rd
Diablo 4 Season 3 is right around the corner, and with it comes a feature everyone has been asking for since the game was revealed: WASD controls on PC. The new season starts on January 23, and will introduce fresh mechanics and enhanced character movement.
Until now, Diablo 4 on PC has been played as a traditional point-and-click game. Abilities are bound to keys 1–4, which works fine in games like this when you're playing slowly and deliberately. But when you're clicking so much and so fast in an area filled with interactive elements waiting to be clicked on, pulling off precise movements can feel frustrating—especially when there's also input lag.
With the addition of WASD, Diablo 4 moves closer to other AAA titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Overwatch 2, both of which primarily use WASD as their control scheme.
- W — Move forward
- S — Move backward
- A — Strafe left
- D — Strafe right
Other keys like Q and E can be used to move diagonally.
The question of why WASD wasn't in Diablo 4 from the beginning is still unanswered. One theory is that by focusing on making sure controller support felt good, WASD integration would have suffered. Players seem to agree that controller support has been great so far, with many saying it's superior to mouse and keyboard.
With Season 3 however, Blizzard will finally allow players to choose whether or not they want to use WASD as their control scheme. Some players are concerned about controlling character movement while also activating skills without accidentally deactivating abilities. But MMO veterans brush these concerns aside because they're already used to having key bindings out the wazoo. They recommend using an MMO mouse with side buttons for skill activation instead of pressing numbers like we do currently—a change many are excited about.
Some players don't care about moving with WASD and are happy with controller play. Others simply want keyboard and mouse support on console versions of Diablo 4.
As we get closer to the season's start at 19:00 on January 23, speculation about whether or not its features will be good continues. One of the most interesting is mechanical companions, which can be customized to your liking.
